a supported path to independent learning

Transitional Toddler is a semi independent program designed to support children as they move toward greater independence. Children attend class independently for most of the session, while parents or caregivers remain on site to provide reassurance as needed.

The program emphasizes purposeful activity, self-care routines, early socialization, and emotional security
— all within a calm and predictable structure.

Our program is focused on providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children to explore, learn, and grow together. While the specific concepts developed may vary depending on the age of the children, we focus on key areas that provide a strong foundation for later learning and development. All of a young child’s developmental needs are met with warmth and care by expert staff, such as their desire to walk and talk, eat and drink independently, and understand the world around them while in the comforting presence of a trusted caregiver.

program highlights.

Montessori at Heart.

Our programs emphasize the importance of fostering independence in young children. This may include activities such as allowing toddlers to feed themselves, choose their own activity, and explore their environment at their own pace. Our guides gently support a child to learn to do things for herself, striking just the right balance between making a little one feel safe and loved, and identifying the right moment to encourage her to try something new. By encouraging independence, our programs help young children develop their self-confidence and sense of autonomy.

Socialization with Peers.

Even at a very young age, infants and young toddlers can begin to develop their social skills through interaction with other children and adults. Our Transitional Toddler classes provide plenty of opportunities for your child to interact with each other in a safe and supportive environment, helping her to develop important social skills such as cooperation, conflict resolution, sharing and empathy.

Psycho-Sensory Motor Development.

Controlled and intentional movement is an important part of early development. Infants unconsciously use their hands to fuel the development of their brains and nervous systems. Our environment carefully nurtures a young child’s developing intelligence by offering increasingly complex objects to explore and manipulate in intriguing ways. You’ll be amazed at how a child can learn, when simply given time and space to practice the activities that respond exactly to precise moments in her development.

Dual-Language Environment.

We know the extreme importance of exposing young children to rich spoken language and dynamic verbal interactions in order to give their developing brains everything needed to master language. Infants and young toddlers can begin to develop their language skills through exposure to spoken language, songs, and other forms of communication. Our programs offer incorporated activities that promote language development, such as reading books, singing songs, and engaging in simple conversations in English and Mandarin.

Parent (Caregiver) Involvement.

Teachers and families form really close bonds at Guidepost Montessori. A young child's Transitional Toddler guide engages parents and caregivers at the start and end of every session, guides them on how best to support a child's development, and invites them to participate during the class ending’s community time.
