where our
students thrive.

Confident, capable children. Strong academic outcomes.

Guidepost graduates have a record of placement at Hong Kong’s most respected international schools, including Hong Kong International School (HKIS), Kellett School, the French International School (FIS), Victoria Shanghai Academy, German Swiss International School (GSIS), the English Schools Foundation (ESF), and many others.

We measure our success in two ways: by what our children can do, and by where they go next.

the academic evidence.

Most parents ask, at some point: how will I actually know if my child is learning?

At Guidepost, you will never have to wait for a report card to find out. Every Guide tracks each child’s development daily against clear Montessori milestones, and shares that picture with families through regular updates and twice-yearly conferences. You know where your child is, what they have mastered, and what comes next.

We also assess our children using MAP Growth (learn more), the most widely used standardized measure in international education, covering reading, language, and mathematics from age 5. Not because we teach to tests, but because serious schools measure what they do.

Together, these give families a complete and honest picture of their child as a learner. Here is what that picture shows.

top quartile in mathematics, from age five through primary.

Guidepost students in Hong Kong score in the top quartile nationally on MAP Growth in mathematics. The Guidepost five- and six-year-old students perform above the national average and reach +12 RIT above the national norm, alongside peers at the most academically demanding international schools. The result places our students among the highest-performing children at their age group nationally.

That lead carries through Primary. Across all grades at the Academy of Innovation Primary School, the Guidepost primary students score in the top quartile in mathematics, and reach +6 RIT and about 5 months ahead of national average.

reading fluency built bilingually.

Our Guidepost Hong Kong students score above the national average on MAP Growth in reading, and they do it while learning in Mandarin at the same time. Reading scores in early elementary are a meaningful test of how well a school balances two languages, and outperforming the national average in English while building genuine Mandarin proficiency at the same time is exactly the outcome bilingual education research predicts.

By Grade 3, our Primary students reach +10 RIT above national norm in reading, strong evidence that bilingual learners catch up to and surpass their monolingual peers as their cognitive base matures.

strong growth, term over term.

Standardized assessments measure two things: where a child is, and how fast they are growing. Both matter.

In our most recent reporting period, every Guidepost Primary student outside of formal learning support showed at least typical growth from Fall to Winter, and the majority showed strong growth, well above international expectations.

Our children are not just performing well. They are accelerating.

what these results mean for your child.

Strong scores are not the goal of a Guidepost education. Agency is. But these results tell parents something important: Montessori does not produce children who lag academically. It produces children who lead. Guidepost graduates leave with the confidence that comes from genuine mastery, and results that reflect it.

where our graduates thrive next.

Of families who transitioned out of Guidepost in a recent academic year, here is where their children headed:

The breadth of this list tells its own story. Our children are not prepared for one type of school — they are prepared for all of them. Whether your family is heading to a bilingual local school, a traditional British curriculum, or a global international program, a Guidepost education gives your child the foundation to thrive.

guidepost montessori alumni voices.

The families who know Guidepost best are the ones who have been through it. Here is what they tell us, in their own words, about what happened when their child moved on.

“We were nervous about the transition to ESF. We didn’t need to be. Within the first week her new teacher called us to say she had never seen a child settle so quickly or independently. She said: ‘She knows how to learn.’ That’s when we understood what three years at Guidepost had really given her.”

—  Parent of a Children’s House graduate — now at ESF Island School

“Our son started at HKIS in Grade 1. The thing that surprised his teachers most was not his reading or his math — it was that he would help other children without being asked, and he could sit with a problem for a long time without giving up. That’s not academic preparation. That’s character.”

—  Parent of a Guidepost Sai Kung graduate — now at HKIS

“Many of our friends chose an international school from the start. We chose Guidepost for the early years and then moved to a local school. Our daughter was fully bilingual by the time she transitioned — genuinely comfortable in both English and Mandarin. The local school told us she was one of the strongest in her class from day one. We have no regrets at all.”

—  Parent of a Guidepost Mid-Levels graduate — now at a local primary school

“What I didn’t expect was how confident he was walking into Kellett on the first day. No tears, no clinging — he just walked in, found a book, and sat down. His Guidepost years gave him that. He knew how to be in a school. He knew how to be with other children. He already felt at home in a classroom.”

—  Parent of a Guidepost Kennedy Town graduate — now at Kellett School

The children in these stories came from different campuses, went to very different schools, and had very different family circumstances. What they share is the same foundation. That is what we build at Guidepost — every day, from the very first year.

how we prepare children beyond school.

Readiness at Guidepost is not a checklist. It is built every day, across every year a child is with us. By the time a child transitions out of our Children’s House or Primary program, they carry with them:

  • Academic foundations. Strong literacy and numeracy built through deep, hands-on understanding rather than memorization.
  • Bilingual fluency. Daily immersion in English and Mandarin across all programs, giving children a genuine cognitive and communicative advantage.
  • Executive function. The ability to plan, focus, persist, and self-regulate. Skills that predict long-term academic success more reliably than any test score.
  • Social-emotional readiness. Children who know how to navigate a community, respect others, resolve conflict, and build real friendships.
  • Love of learning. Children who want to be in school. Who find the work genuinely satisfying. Who do not need to be motivated, because the drive is already theirs.

transition support.

Moving from Guidepost to a new school is a meaningful change for children and parents alike.

In your child’s transition year, our Guides work closely with your family to ensure children feel prepared: emotionally, academically, and socially. We are also happy to speak directly with receiving schools about your child’s development, achievements, and learning profile.

When your child moves on, we share a rich, evidence-based picture of who they are as a learner. Receiving schools see daily milestone tracking, observations from credentialed Guides, summary notes from parent-teacher conferences, and standardized academic results from MAP. This layered record goes far beyond a standard report card and gives receiving schools a meaningful view of your child’s growth, character, and academic readiness.

guidepost vs. traditional schools.

Many families come to us having considered different schools as their starting point. Here is what we would want every family to know:

Traditional Schools Guidepost Montessori
One curriculum, taught at the same pace to every child Mastery-based learning where lessons are given to each child at the moment they are ready
Children listen, follow instructions, and produce the right answer Children choose, build, and discover the answer themselves, guided by their guides
Teaching to the test, with high-stakes exams starting as young as K2 Teaching for mastery, with balanced assessment that informs rather than ranks
Rote memorization of math facts before they are understood Mathematics is built with materials - children can see, hold, and combine
Phonics is drilled as a subject Reading and writing are built through real language: stories, conversation, and meaning
Worksheets starting in kindergarten Purposeful, developmentally appropriate practical activities
Teacher-centered lectures in rows Collaborative mixed-age learning, with each child working at their own readiness

Guidepost graduates go on to the most competitive international and local schools in Hong Kong. They don't just keep up. They lead.
